sliding gates are usually designed to be permanently open unless a fire breaks out; then they are closed as a result of the effect of counterweight. The gate is kept in this position by an electromagnetic hold connected to the fire alarm system. The gates can be fitted with electric motors which automatically open and close them during normal use. To facilitate foot traffic, for example in production halls, the gate may be fitted with steel fire door of the mcr ALPE type.
