It also has some inherent fire-resistance characteristics; however, this product should not be used to provide the levels of fire resistance required by various building codes and standards.

Soffitboard contains a noncombustible gypsum core, enhanced for strength (sag resistance). The core is covered with paper facings on the front, back, and long edges.

Soffitboard can be used in building applications that require direct mechanical attachment to wood or metal ceiling frames. It will accommodate a variety of paints and textures after proper surface preparation, which includes two coats with an exterior primer.

Note: Soffitboard is suitable for protected exterior applications; it should not be used where it will come into direct contact with water. The board should also be protected from exposure to adverse conditions during storage and construction. It should be vented to the exterior in accordance with local codes; generally, at least 1 square foot of ventilation should be provided for every enclosed bay or 150 square feet of installed board.

Soffitboard is designed to provide a sag- and fire-resistant exterior underside panel for both residential and commercial construction applications, including:
The soffit side of eaves;
Carports and parking areas;
Breezeways;
Open porches; and
Porticos and covered walkways.
